This is a special day to make general public aware of various Gastroenterology issues related with Hepatology (study of liver diseases) so that with awareness preventable liver diseases can be kept at bay.
Gastroenterology and Hepatology are inter-related and it is important to understand that liver diseases are many times dependent a lot on our lifestyle and food. Apart from this :
-Alcohol and Hepatitis A
- Raised Body mass index (obesity)
- Hepatitis B.
- Hepatitis C
- High Cholesterol
- Diabetes
- Over the counter Drugs.
- Hepatitis E
- Gall stones.
are some other important causes of liver diseases.
It is most important for all of us to recognise the threat to our liver, and consult a physician, gastroenterologist or Hepatologist for any ailment involving liver. Most of these hepatology issues are resolved easily, although investigations are necessary for firm diagnosis and some intervention may be necessary to achieve good healthy liver.
This year, ie 2022, we have commemorated the World Liver Day with 2 organisations, IMA on the 18th of April with an academic meet and Guru Nanak Dev University, with an audience from faculty and senior students as an awareness session. There was involvement of people from many different sections of society and it was an occasion to apprise general public regarding Gastroenterology and Hepatology and promote liver health.
It is the duty of theGastroenterologists, Hepatologists, and Physicians to lead such awareness activities for the benefit of general public.
